St. Mary's Religious Education Update: The Covid-19 Pandemic has required us to make changes to our program for this new Religious Ed year, to start on Nov. 1, 2020. Watch for important information being mailed soon. These changes will offer choices for our families to decide which option will work best for their family during this time.
The options will include: 1) In-Person Classes: Meeting twice a month (as allowed) and parent instruction the other two weeks. Faith & Life Series textbooks and workbooks (to be taken home and returned for the next session). Precautions in place to include Masks, Social Distancing and Sanitizing. 2) At home online classes through My Catholic Faith Delivered. Director supervised remotely. 3) The Way: Parent Planning Meeting once a month. Training and support for at home parent instruction using Diocese of Kalamazoo resources. 4) Home Instruction by parents using Faith & Life Series Textbooks and Workbooks. Finished work is turned in to the Director at the end of each month.
More details and registration forms will be available soon on the Church website and by email. You can also call the Religious Ed office at 269-657-4459 ext. 223
Catechism of the Catholic Church 2223
Parents have the first responsibility for the education of their children. They bear witness to this responsibility first by creating a home where tenderness, forgiveness, respect, fidelity, and disinterested service are the rule. The home is well suited for education in the virtues. This requires an apprenticeship in self-denial, sound judgment, and self-mastery - the preconditions of all true freedom. Parents should teach their children to subordinate the "material and instinctual dimensions to interior and spiritual ones." Parents have a grave responsibility to give good example to their children.
